I was listening to a CD today, and I realised it was very familiar. "Maybe it's a cover," I thought to myself. As the two bands were fairly unheard by most people: Kad Achouri and Rio en Medio, I thought that was unlikely.

It's a poem by Paul Eluard! For those who do not read French, it's basically "On the X, On the Y, I write your name" over and over again. It sounds better than it is in abbreviated translation, but the repetition of it is interesting. I think it's about all-engulfing, burning love. The narrator sees nothing other than places to write the name of his beloved. It's rather sweet, really. "And by the power of a word, I start my life again. I was born to know you, to say your name." Or something. Aww.
It's really rather good, and I fully understand why it's been turned into a song multiple times. He was one of the founders of the Surrealist movement, according to the Other Wiki. Chums with Picasso, don't you know.
